Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking a skilled, organized, and passionate culinary professional to oversee and execute meal preparation for students in PreKindergarten through 12th grade, support the school’s international boarding program with culturally responsive meals, and lead catered food service for internal school events. An ideal candidate has experience preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for large groups of varying ages and dietary needs, managing kitchen staff and inventory, and complying with all health and safety standards. A commitment to excellence, adaptability, and a love of food and community are essential to success in this role.
This position reports to the Director of Finance and Strategy and collaborates closely with the Division Heads (school principals), International Program, and Advancement departments. Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Plan and prepare daily breakfast and lunch service for students and faculty (PK-12)
- Design and execute culturally inclusive dinner and weekend meals for the international boarding program
- Develop monthly menus in advance to be published on the school website
- Lead menu planning, food preparation, and service for internal catered events such as open houses, professional development days, and receptions
- Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper storage, handling, and cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment
- Maintain readiness for routine and unannounced health inspections by adhering to all local, state, and federal food service codes and standards
- Manage kitchen staff, scheduling, and workflow to ensure efficient operation
- Order food and supplies within budget guidelines; maintain accurate inventory
- Meet performance goals established as part of the annual performance planning process
- Actively engage in personal and professional work in support of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Skills and Competencies:
- Passion for food and creating healthy, student-friendly meals
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Clear communication and team leadership abilities
- Cultural competence and the ability to create inclusive menus.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods.
- Strong knowledge of health department regulations and compliance requirements
- Comfort with flexible scheduling to support catered school events outside regular lunch hours
Credentials:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent; ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety credential
Preferred: Culinary school degree or professional chef certification; experience in school, institutional, or catering kitchens
